‘The Amazing Race 26,’ ‘Survivor’ season 30 receive official premiere dates
While there still may not be much known about the 30th season of “Survivor,” we are at least pretty happy to tell you right now one other thing: When the show will return to CBS.
In a statement today, the network confirmed that the landmark 30th installment of the reality franchise will premiere on Wednesday, February 25, and just like with “Survivor: San Juan del Sur,” it will be a 90-minute premiere. The filming location is still the same in Nicaragua, and given the almost-complete silence over the summer, our guess is that there will also be an entirely-new cast for the third straight season.
Meanwhile, the network is trying something new (thankfully) for “The Amazing Race” to try to improve off of the disappointing ratings the show has drawn this fall on Fridays. The new 26th season will also have a 90-minute premiere on February 25, which should try to capture some of the “Survivor” lead-in before it. From there, it will then move to Fridays and finish off the rest of its own season. Maybe this helps a little, but ultimately, the biggest problem here is that this is just not a great night to air the show. It’s watched by many people within the 18-49 demographic, and they aren’t always home on this night.
For those wondering about some other CBS reality shows, the network also confirmed today that the latest version of “Undercover Boss” is going to air on December 14, and will air three episodes on a Sunday before shifting to Fridays in January. There, it will perform until “The Amazing Race” returns in February. This could end up being a battle royale to determine which show gets the timeslot in the fall.
