‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 5 reaction: Show boss on Damon storyline
At the end of Thursday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” there was what has to be the biggest shocker of the entire season so far. We knew that Damon would return eventually, but without Bonnie, and also right in the middle of his brother finally starting to break down, was almost perfect. It was one of the show’s best moments since the ending of season 3, which remains a personal favorite.
Of course, the return of Damon to the familiar world does not signify a new beginning for anything, even if Elena does not remember most of their past together. He has so much that he is going to have to come back from. Speaking on this very subject in a new interview with TV Guide after this episode, executive producer Caroline Dries had the following to say, including how Damon’s dishonesty about what really happened could impact Bonnie’s own journey back:
“When he comes back he has the opportunity to tell them exactly what happened or lie and cover up the truth in order to protect people’s feelings. He chooses the latter, hoping that’s the right choice to make and that everyone will be able to accept it better without having to go through the whole death of Bonnie again. You’ll see how they start to become aware [that] Bonnie actually is alive, and their mission is to get to her.”
Sooner or later, we do assume that we are going to see more of Bonnie around some of the other characters. She is just too interesting to completely separate. Her issue will come in whether or not she can separate from Kai.
