Ratings: Was ‘Agents of SHIELD’ helped by ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ tease?
Marvel made one thing extremely clear in the past week: They were so desperate to ensure that there was new “Avengers: Age of Ultron” footage during Tuesday’s “Agents of SHIELD” that they came up with a plan B when they found out that their official trailer for the movie had leaked online early.
Overall, it was a slight boost to the series, or at least it didn’t hurt at all. The ABC show improved its rating this week to a 1.7 in the 18-49 demographic, which is slightly higher than what it was a week before. This may just be attributed to luck, though, or people wanting to see more of Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi Morse after she premiered on the show the week before.
Next week, Phil Coulson and company are getting a reprieve due to a Marvel special, so what we will have to wait and see is if another hiatus ends up either helping or hurting the show. Sometimes, losing episodes can have a very dangerous impact on a series, since you run the risk of people forgetting that the show is on. Luckily, we feel like viewers of “SHIELD” are a little more loyal than that.
For those making the silly Marvel vs. DC comparisons (which are mostly apples and oranges, since one airs on The CW), “The Flash” was down slightly to a 1.3 rating for its new “Arrow” crossover with Emily Bett Rickards. It has yet to really find its leveled-off audience since premiering, and most superhero shows due tend to lose a good many viewers following their premieres. (Just look at “Agents of SHIELD” for more evidence of that.)
