‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’: More real-life clowns have disdain for Twisty
There is an interesting subplot happening at the moment in regards to “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” but we are interestingly enough talking a little bit more about what is going on away from the show from what is happening on it here.
Specifically, we are talking about the reaction that some are having from within the clowning community to Twisty, the primary villain on this season played by John Carroll Lynch. One organization in particular has expressed frustration that this is creating a negative portrayal of all clowns that hurts their reputation (and therefore business), and there is another one coming out now with comments.
Speaking to Vulture, World Clown Organization president Randy Christensen, who goes by the clown name of Oxford P. Nuts, explained that he prefers to separate characters like Twisty from true clowns, who carry out a specific purpose:
“Technically, I don’t even refer to horror clowns as clowns. They’re horror characters. American Horror Show [sic] — I think for the first season, they had Santa Claus with an ax. Is that what Santa’s really like? No. People use their imaginations different ways, but we’re proponents of good, clean, wholesome, family-friendly, cheerful comedy.”
At least Christensen has a decent viewpoint on the subject, which is that these negative portrayals are probably going to keep coming, and it is right for most people to separate Twisty from an actual clown when it comes to this purpose. That’s the best thing most normal people can do, but a fear of clowns will inevitably continue.
What do you think: Is all of this criticism of “Dangerous Clowns” justified, and do you think Twisty is a little too damaging?
