‘Downton Abbey’ season 5, episode 6 spoilers: On Elizabeth McGovern’s Cora, the future

Cora -Today, we’re going to have the sixth episode of “Downton Abbey” season 5, and this is going to be one that could be integral to the future of Lady Cora on the series. (Warning: Spoilers ahead for Americans!)

While producers are being tight-lipped about the story for Cora moving forward on the show, here’s what we know. In the past episode, Robert and Simon Bricker came to blows over him trying to enter her room and sleep with her, which she was not interested in. As a whole, we do feel like Cora led him on somewhat by spending so much time with him, but it was never out of romantic intentions. Instead, it came more out of her just trying to find a way to get some attention from someone after feeling emotionally neglected by her own husband.

Now, we wonder if Richard E. Grant is through with the series, given that we are not entirely clear if there is any way Simon is allowed to re-enter Downton at any point in the future. Robert certainly would not allow it, and Cora may not want to create further problems.

Even though she was not physically unfaithful, there may still be an issue here when it comes to how she feels about Robert, and how he continues to treat her. These two, if they want to move forward as a couple in any capacity, are going to have some long and difficult conversations moving forward. We’ll just have to wait and see what transpires when it comes to those, and if they play a big role in this episode. We’ll have a review up shortly.
