‘Boardwalk Empire’ series finale: A look at how we arrived
Sunday night, it all ends for “Boardwalk Empire.” That is something that we are still trying to wrap our head around, regardless of however hard it may be.
In the video below, what we have is basically another look at the seventh episode of the final season via writer / executive producer Howard Korder, which to us serves as a pretty nice foundation to what is ultimately coming around the bend in the series finale. This tells us more about how Nucky is averse to a certain sort of person, some of the desperate moves that have been made, and above all a basic setting of the stage for what could be a heck of a way to close off this journey on HBO.
How we say goodbye to these characters is something that is critical, and also something that many other shows have struggled with very much as they start to say goodbye. There are some shows like “Dexter” who have so much creative turnover that the eventual ending differs drastically from what the original showrunner had in mind for the story; meanwhile, you also have “How I Met Your Mother,” a show that stayed so true to the original vision of the story that it did not take into account how much people would love the mother, and how the whole story was largely an excuse to set up Ted and Robin being together.
Ultimately, the only formula to a successful finale is to have a good idea where you’re going from the beginning, but also be okay with changing things. Be in tune to what your fans think, and while don’t write specifically for them, don’t put on blinders.
