Will ‘Manhattan Love Story’ be first canceled show? Ratings indicate it’s possible
So far, we have to give almost every woefully-rated TV show a little bit of credit this year, if for no other reason than that they’ve all managed to survive at least a few weeks.
However, we do feel like the end of the road is just about here for one show, and that is ABC’s “Manhattan Love Story.” It drew just a 0.7 in the 18-49 demographic last night, which is half of the rating that “The Flash” had at the same timeslot on The CW. Anytime that The CW is doubling your rating, you know that you are most likely in a little bit of trouble.
We’re still surprised mostly that ABC ever thought this show was a great idea. There have been so many Manhattan love stories that it is hard to get this one to stand out at all. Not only that, but the whole gimmick of all the narration gets old really quickly. We say this as one of the biggest haters of narration of all time, and really feel almost like the only shows it really works are ones like “Sex and the City,” which has a column at the center of it, or “Dexter,” where he really has no other way to get that inner monologue out.
If ABC does cancel the show, we’ll probably hear within the next few days. We figure a good move for them in the short-term would be to give the post-“Selfie” timeslot a chance for some “black-ish” repeats, given that this is a show with more potential and a full season already behind it.
Also, go give “Selfie” another chance and ignore its stupid title. While we didn’t like the pilot at all, it has improved by a good degree in the weeks since.

It’s a shame, of the two I prefer Manhattan Love Story over Selfie. I agree the inner-monologue of both leads has gotten old – if they want to rotate, maybe stick to one for an episode and then switch. But the leads are likeable anyway, so I hope they find work elsewhere when this show ends.
