‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 7: Dayton Callie on what drives Unser

The latest -Watching the journey of Unser over the course of “Sons of Anarchy” probably has been one of the greater joys of the entire season. Back during the formative years of the series, it felt like he would be an early casualty thanks mostly to his diagnosis. Somehow, however, he has lasted so long that we wounder if he could be the last man standing.

While Dayton Callie is not speaking too much about that aspect of his character right now, he did take a little time prior to tonight’s “Greensleeves” asking one other important question: What is pushing Unser now? Is he going to see the forest through the trees thanks to his ties with Gemma and Juice? Based on what the actor had to say to Yahoo TV in a new article, he will find himself struggling to determine what is going to happen with some of these characters:

“He thinks there are bad people moving into our territory. He doesn’t know the whole deal with Juice — it’s a club matter — but he knows it’s bad, and he doesn’t want him to die. He’s known Juice since he got into the club. You remember the first episodes, we were actually very — he’s been friendly with all the guys. It’s not like he’s some outsider. He’s just not in the club. He knows the reality of the Mayans and the other clubs, that everybody is looking to come and take over new territory. They’re just trying to take over Charming, and he’s actually for [SAMCRO] defending it.”

We are at a point now where we want to see Unser and/or Juice survive, but we have a hard time thinking that the writers and creator Kurt Sutter are that invested in giving us something close to a happy ending here. It’s possible that we could lose one or both of them tonight, and that will be an especially hard pill for us to swallow.
