‘Faking It’ renewed by MTV for ten-episode season 2B
“Faking It” is about to have much more in common with its MTV timeslot buddy “Awkward.”
Today, it was announced that the Rita Volk – Katie Stevens comedy, originally about two friends faking a lesbian relationship for attention (though it has since become much more complicated), will receive ten more episodes that will comprise the rest of season 2. This is a similar format to what “Awkward” has done with both its third and fourth seasons.
What is relatively unclear is when the second half of this season will air, since MTV may have an opportunity here to expand their comedy block. With “Faking It” finding a little bit of success on the network, they may opt to try and start a new comedy block in January featuring it and another new show, that way they can expand their content library a little more year-round. With “Awkward” also ending after its upcoming fifth season, it may also benefit them more to see if they can find some other shows that could be potential warriors in the ratings down the line.
All in all, this is still great news for a comedy that could have easily come across as cheesy or exploitative if it was in a different set of hands. the show is pitched correctly, and while a few episodes are a little too geared on messages rather than laughs, it’s far and away better than the majority of the unoriginal network comedy being produced these days.
