MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4, episode 16 preview: Lissa’s questions of faith
If there is one specific thing that we have figured out about “Awkward” so far, it is that almost nothing is brought up through a lens of normalcy. Sometimes, things are intentional either offbeat or ridiculous, and other times, you have a tendency to see the show take a tongue-in-cheek approach to stereotypes.
This is almost what we feel like we’re getting in the preview video below from Tuesday night’s new episode, which is a lengthy discussion on the differences between “heaven” and then a certain place known as “gay heaven,” which Lissa is getting an education on from Theo and Cole. She brings up the subject of salvation mostly through the context of her father. If he is secretly gay, then what happens to him after you die?
So long as you’re not the sort that gets easily offended, you’ll probably get a laugh or two out of the exchange. Then again, this is almost a microcosm for the show as a whole.
What we’ve really found hilarious about the Lissa storyline this season is her relationship with Tyler, and we hope that this is addressed at some point during this particular episode, as well. Even though this sort of relationship is not typically frowned upon, they’re not related by blood, and therefore it may not be as taboo in real life as the show tries to make it out to be. The world through Lissa’s lens is therefore often a complicated but also funny place.
