‘Homeland’ season 4, episode 4 preview: Can Carrie really help Aayan?

On Sunday night’s “Homeland” episode, we are going to see yet another tense situation revolving around Carrie, and this time it happens when Aayan comes to her for help.

It seems like a simple presence, but in a way, the sneak preview for this episode below is almost a microcosm of the entirety of the series. From the very beginning of the show, Claire Danes’ character has struggled to a certain extent to come up with an answer to a single question: How in the world do you cope? What is the best way to make that happen? With Brody, she interpreted satisfying him by getting involved romantically, and that turned out to be a whirlwind of a romance that resulted in both a child and a tragedy.

We’re not saying that we expect history to repeat itself here, but Carrie does need to figure out whether or not she is going to be able to handle situations like this, and really understand how the other half lives and feels. As we saw earlier this season, she had no regard even for people witnessing a wedding of all things.

If nothing else, we can at least praise “Homeland” right now for managing to find its voice again this season. There were quite a few moments where we seriously wondered whether this show could get everything back together, but it definitely has. Now, we just have to see whether or not can sustain it. That is something it has struggled with in the past.
