‘The Newsroom’ season 3 video: Emily Mortimer introduces Mackenzie McHale moments

For some reason, we were worried a little that HBO was not going to give “The Newsroom” an enormous publicity campaign prior to the start of its third season, mostly because these are the final six episodes and the show’s not exactly fighting for a renewal.

Luckily, we’ve been proven wrong! We’ve seen posters, trailers, and this new video featuring some of the best moments from the often-awesome character of Mackenzie McHale. Emily Mortimer introduces the video, thanking everyone for all of their attentive viewing over the past couple of years. There is no new footage in here, but it is a nice way to fall in love with the character all over again before Sunday, November 9 rolls around.

In the end, we don’t see this really as a campaign designed to market the show towards new viewers. Instead, it’s all about retaining some of the people who have already caught the show and loved it over the years. We feel like this really is the best strategy the show can take at this point. Much of the media is cynical, and there are some TV critics who probably are going to complain unless one of the leads on your show is a complicated antihero who is either a serial cheater or has some sort of illegal activity going on. It’s better to play into the hand of the people who love your show for what it is. (We are definitely in that camp.)

Hopefully, there will be even more of these videos released before the show rolls around to its big premiere episode.
