‘Mad Men’ season 7: Would Elisabeth Moss do spin-off show?
We should preface this article about “Mad Men” by saying this: There is almost surely not going to be a spin-off show to the AMC series. Creator Matthew Weiner has already made it clear he has no plans to do one, and the ending next year is going to be the ending.
Still, isn’t it fun to speculate about this a little bit? We like to think so. Elisabeth Moss has been on a promotional tour later for her new movie “Listen Up Philip,” and in a new interview with IndieWire, she did make it clear that she would be hypothetically interested in a show all about Peggy Olson … just in case we ever see Weiner change his mind:
“Absolutely. [Laughs] 100% but only if it’s written by Matt Weiner. That would be my one condition. Although, I do think we should get Joan in there. I feel like if there’s going to be a spinoff, I’d really rather not carry that by myself, I think it should be Peggy and Joan.”
Quick, someone call Christina Hendricks! The funny thing here is that we actually feel like in theory, “Mad Men” would be better suited for a spin-off than even “Breaking Bad,” given that the odds are that most of the important characters here are not going to end up dead or in an impossible situation.
The real reason we would have a hard time envisioning it is because it’s hard to think that Joan or Peggy would be in a situation moving forward without Don Draper, Roger, or any of the other characters we’ve seen on the show over the years. You’d have to move the two to a completely new setting to start over, and that may look a little hokey. Sometimes things that look good on paper can burn in a split-second.
