‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 3 review: Jennifer Love Hewitt takes center stage
We had a small look into the life of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character of Kate Callahan during the premiere of “Criminal Minds” season 10, but not much else has been revealed about her. We did see that she has a young girl living with her that calls her “Kate” and not mom and it she was wearing what looked like a wedding band. Is she married? What’s her connection to the child in her house?
When a plane crashes killing everyone but the co-pilot, and terrorism is everyone’s first thought. This plane crash has Kate especially shaken since this hits close to home for her. She shares with Spencer that her sister and brother died in 9/11 (they were at the pentagon when the plane crashed into it). Kate reveals that she and Chris (her husband) brought her sister’s daughter, Meg (13), into their home and raised her as they would their own child. Spencer shares that his girlfriend was killed in front of him and that his mother has schizophrenia.
The crew is able to figure out who is causing the planes to crash (not terrorists, seems to be a hacker with an affinity for conspiracy theories) and stop the man from doing any more damage.
We were happy to see that “Criminal Minds” didn’t waste any time giving the audience a chance to get to know Kate better. Sometimes procedural shows like this take a while to reveal background on the main crew, so this was a nice change of pace. The Kate character has be a happy addition to the show – it’s nice to have a character that is a badass, but still has a layered. emotional side to them as well. Episode grade: B
