‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 3 video: A deeper look at Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Kate

Tomorrow night, “Criminal Minds” is airing a big episode in “A Thousand Suns,” and it may be one of the most emotional ones to date … especially if you are Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character of Kate Callahan.

While the preview video below does not give a whole lot of it away, we know that this is going to be a particularly emotional episode for this character. We will learn a little more about her past, and how airplanes somehow tie into it. The case this week revolves mostly around the BAU working to determine whether or not there was a particular person behind a deadly and surprising accident in the air. The fact that they are having to travel by air to this place also feels more than a little bit unsettling.

We feel like the show did a pretty smart thing in not letting you know too much about the Kate character right away, mostly because you didn’t want to overload the show with too much of one person in the early going. It makes a little more sense to have this be a slow build and something gradual, where you eventually do start to understand more of who this person is, what they bring to the table, and why they are now working in the profession that they are.

Even if you don’t like Kate, it doesn’t feel like you have too much of a reason to be afraid right now. There appears to be a variety of other stories that will be told at the same time that will give many other characters something further to do.
