‘Gotham’ episode 5 preview: Are there Scarecrow connections in ‘Viper’?

Next week, Fox is going to air the next all-new episode of “Gotham” entitled “Viper,” but based on some of the first information that is out there about this episode, we cannot help but wonder about the connections between the synopsis below, and also a popular DC Comics villain in the Scarecrow.

Are we going to see the villain? Doubtful. The connection here may be more thematic, since we think about the character whenever we hear stories about drugs that produce some sort of bizarre effect. It’s similar to what we have with Vertigo on “Arrow” in that respect.

Now, let’s bring you back to that synopsis:

“Gordon and Bullock search for the source of a new street drug that causes euphoria then death. Meanwhile, Oswald Cobblepot works his way deeper into Maroni’s (guest-star David Zayas) inner circle and Fish Mooney continues to plot against Falcone.”

When it comes to some of the villains that the Dark Knight Batman eventually takes on, we really don’t want to see younger versions of many of them on the show anytime soon. We know that they are big draws, but you don’t want to make things too unrealistic. We like it better the idea of thematic ties; for example, we looked at “The Balloonman” last week at a story that investigated the vigilante themes that Batman himself does, but just in a completely different way.

The great news now is that with a full season, there’s no longer any reason to worry about “Gotham” having to introduce new villains or characters too soon.

What do you want to see on this particular “Gotham” episode right now, and how many villains do you want to see surface on the show? Share with a comment.
