‘American Horror Story’ season 5 official; show renewed after ‘Freak Show’ records

American Horror Story -It looks like you are not going to have to wait very long at all to find out when “American Horror Story” is going to be renewed for a fifth season. FX made the news official today, not long after the live+3 numbers for their current “Freak Show” came in.

Just how big are the numbers we are talking about here? Let’s put it this way: More than ten million viewers watched the 90-minute premiere with these three days of DVR viewing factored in, including 6.5 million in the key 18-49 demographic. This is a record for an FX program, and it even dethroned the massive premiere numbers for “Sons of Anarchy” earlier this fall.

With this in mind, FX has ordered another season to air starting next year, which may or may not be the first without star Jessica Lange. While she said in the past that “Freak Show” was going to be her last with the show, co-creator Ryan Murphy has been working to convince her otherwise. While we know that he would love to have her on board, we also feel at this point like this entire franchise is really bigger than her at this point and the ratings are going to be fine regardless. After all, he will still most likely have Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, and more.

It’s understandable why so many people would want to be a part of this show. Not only do you get a chance to play some creative and sometimes-crazy characters, but this is a show that frequently scares up all sorts of love from the Emmys. Why wouldn’t you want a piece of that pie?

What’s your reaction to the renewal news, and what theme do you want next year? (We’d personally like to see something modern.) Share with a comment, and head over here to get some further updates on all we cover right now via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
