‘Madam Secretary’ episode 5 preview: ‘Blame Canada’ is probably not about ‘South Park’

“Madam Secretary” producers, we see what you did there. If nothing else, the title of “Blame Canada” for the next all-new episode certainly got our attention. the irony here is that this gives us such a comedic impression of the story ahead, when in reality Elizabeth is going to be tackling some issues that are rather serious. The country is on the brink of war, and she has to find a way to secure peace if at all possible.

Before we do anything else, let’s go ahead and share what the full synopsis for this episode is courtesy of CBS:

“When Elizabeth faces the daunting task of negotiating with Iran over their escalating nuclear program, she is determined to deal with the situation in a peaceful manner, despite the President’s position of using military action. Meanwhile, Jason has new admiration for his father when he interviews him for a school report.”

The school report story could actually be interesting, and we say that as someone who has not been much of a fan of the whole “away from the office” stories. We already assume most of the time that Elizabeth has a home life, and we don’t always need to see it in order for the story to be effective.

With that being said, this is just our own take. There are many interesting issues with this series that are going to unfold in the weeks ahead, and some may not even be that tied to the action on-screen. We’re also curious about the ratings. This show is a big hit in total viewers, but is struggling in the demo. What will this mean for CBS?
