The CW may make a third superhero show; are Firestorm, the Atom, Harley Quinn candidates?

The latest -Apparently, there are “discussions” going on at The CW regarding a third superhero show, and we have to say that almost immediately, we are left feeling both excited and nervous at the same time.

Let us start here by saying that we love “Arrow,” and one episode into “The Flash,” we love it to. The network, coupled with the team of Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg, have brought us so much good will that we don’t worry about them messing up a franchise. However, are three hero shows on one network too much? This basically means that 30% of The CW’s primetime slate would be on the same subject, and some viewers may not have that much time in the day.

It was network head Mark Pedowitz who first hinted, per BuzzFeed, that they are thinking about the future … so what could this future be? We’ve already got a few simple suggestions for them.

Firestorm – You already have Victor Garber and Robbie Amell on “The Flash,” and they are both familiar names. The character may not be too familiar to non-comic book readers, but it makes sense in the universe that you’ve built.

The Atom – This is similar in that you have Brandon Routh, and the powers here are pretty cool. Unfortunately, he is also not a particularly well-known character who will bring in anyone other than comic loyalists.

Booster Gold – Given that “The Flash” is introducing an element of time travel, this also makes a little bit of sense. Wouldn’t it be fun to add some further insight into who this character is?

Green Lantern – The movie was a dud in terms of entertainment value. Still, he is a character who audiences are familiar with, and his future on a “Justice League” series is not entirely clear.

Wonder Girl – While CBS may have a Supergirl show, The CW could use one fronted by a woman. Wonder Woman seems off the table now that they’ve already passed on the story, and she is a part of the movies. Wonder Girl, meanwhile, could be interesting if she was incorporated somehow.

Zatanna – Maybe she ends up being used in NBC’s “Constantine,” but if not, she is one of the better characters in this universe, and there is still so much to explore.

Harley Quinn -Harley Quinn – Probably one of our favorite characters in all the DC universe, and we realize that it’s a stretch. Maybe she will be used in one of the upcoming movies, but if not, she’s open. “Arrow” already put a cameo of her on the show. She’s not a hero, and that in itself would make her a great lead for a show since she has such a different assortment of motives.

Obviously, the problem here is that it would be pretty tough to include an origin story for her that did not include the Joker, especially since we’re sure that character is going to be a part of some other DC property in the future and they may not want to share. We suppose that one way you could get around this is by putting her in a universe similar to the new comic series, where she goes away from Gotham to Coney Island, and then just include some of those stories via flashback.

We could keep going here for a while, but who do you want to see star on another DC Comics TV show? Share with a comment, and head over here to get some further scoop on everything we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
