‘Saturday Night Live’ frustrates Chelsea Handler, who was approached for hosting gig

SNL -Well, it looks like you can most-likely write off Chelsea Handler on the list of people who could be hosting “Saturday Night Live” in the future. She is not even remotely happy with the franchise, and it seems she has a good many reasons why.

In an interview on HuffPost Live, the comedian, who is getting set to host a mysterious talk show for Netflix following her stint on E!, claimed that the NBC series approached her via a producer to offer her a spot emceeing the show, but nothing ever came to pass:

“They said, ‘Oh, we have to have you host.’ My agent called, he said, ‘You’re hosting SNL. They’re gonna give you a date in the fall.’ And then it never happened.”

She was eventually asked to host a second time, but once again nothing ever came from it. She said that she was told that the writers “have a problem anytime [they] bring on a comedian,” but that cannot be too true given that the show just had Sarah Silverman, and before that Louis CK was a particularly notable host. Can the two act in addition to doing standup sets? Sure, but we feel like Handler has enough credits to her name that she could, as well.

Really, to us it feels best that Chelsea never hosted in the first place, mostly because she and the show feel like oil and water. She’d probably be unable to say what she wanted, and we’re not even sure that the series would know how to use her. Given that “SNL” is in season 40 and Handler is still going strong, it feels like everyone still emerged from all this just fine.
