Ratings: ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ scares up record numbers

American Horror Story -While “American Horror Story: Freak Show” may not have drawn the biggest ratings for a premiere in the history of FX, the network still has quite a bit to celebrate right now: After all, the show did break the record for its highest-rated episode to date.

Overall, the return of Jessica Lange and company drew the fairly-impressive total viewer count of 6.1 million, and also a great 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is up slightly from the 3.0 who watched the premiere, which is at least a slight sign that the show has probably come near the peak of what it is going to draw.

Even still, this is an astounding number for a cable program during the week. “Modern Family” is the only show on any channel tonight to get a better number, which means that the Ryan Murphy show did better than “Criminal Minds,” “Survivor,” or any of ABC’s other news comedies.

With all of this being said, we do more than expect the ratings to decline in the coming weeks, mostly because they by and large do. This is just the way of the world with this show. It’s so hard to keep up with a serial throughout an entire season, and the way that this will work is that many will probably catch up on DVR after the fact.

No matter what, the one thing we feel pretty confident about is that the series is going to return for a fifth season. It’s not confirmed yet, but it practically could be.
