Ratings: ‘Arrow’ premiere, ‘Survivor,’ ‘black-ish’ up; ‘Criminal Minds,’ ‘Stalker’ slide
The numbers are in for the “Arrow” premiere, and we really feel like they are about what they expected. Did the presence of “The Flash” help to improve things somewhat? Sure, but we’re not looking at a show that drew tremendously more viewers because of it.
The opener to season 3 ultimately drew a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a slight improvement on both the season 2 premiere and the finale. This still is a number that The CW should be happy with, especially with this show’s international following and strong reviews.
The news was good elsewhere for a few other shows. “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” continued to be solid with a 2.5 for its latest episode, and over on ABC, “black-ish” (2.8) is starting to look like it may finally be the series to actually keep most of the lead-in from “Modern Family” (3.4). To be fair, “Modern Family” is no longer the smash hit that it was a couple of years ago.
Wednesday was at least a good enough day as a whole that there is no reason to ring the cancellation bell for any show just yet. While “Stalker” slipped in its second week, it still did enough to have a 1.7 rating, which was enough for #1 in its timeslot. Meanwhile, “The Mysteries of Laura” remains NBC’s most-watched Wednesday show, even though it drew just a 1.3 rating. Its audience skews so old, you would actually think it is a part of CBS’ Friday-night lineup with “Hawaii Five-0” and “Blue Bloods.” Meanwhile, “Criminal Minds” dropped to a 2.4 from its pretty-solid premiere rating, but it’s not going anywhere for a long time.
