Ratings: ‘Gotham’ and ‘Scorpion’ each fall; ‘The Big Bang Theory’ wins, but down
We waited for this particular ratings update for a number of different reasons, with the biggest ones being preemptions, and also the bizarre tradition this season for ABC shows to see their numbers sort of fly all over the place.
Ironically, this was a Monday where the numbers didn’t shift too much. “Dancing with the Stars” (1.9) and “Castle” (2.0) can feel good about being consistent in the 18-49 demographic, but we cannot imagine us writing much about either show much the rest of the fall when it comes to ratings. They always stay pretty steady, and they will continue to have their fans despite skewing old.
Instead, let’s talk new shows! We’re still waiting for the bleeding to stop for “Gotham” (2.5), which started really strong but has since fallen. Meanwhile, “Scorpion” (2.5) dropped significantly for the first time since its own premiere. Will either of them get those viewers back? Probably not. It’s very hard for a new show to get people back. Just as those who at one point watched, and later left, Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD.”
As for some assorted news on the night, “The Originals” started with a 0.7 that they should be okay with, given the new night and The CW’s recent struggles with Mondays. If it stays above a 0.6, it will be renewed almost without question. Meanwhile, “The Big Bang Theory” (4.5) once again won the night, but it seems to be a better performer on Thursdays than on Mondays.
Finally, disappointments. “NCIS: Los Angeles” drew just a 1.6, its lowest number to date. Clearly, CBS managed to mess that one up.
What do you think right now about some of these numbers? Share some of your thoughts with a comment.

Canon will always be my favorite that will not change. Now I have watched Gotham & Scorpion since the beginning & I can see why maybe those two won’t last. I really don’t want to watch Gotham if Bruce Wayne is never going to be allowed to grow up & become Batman. That premise is going to get old really quick. As far as Scorpion is concerned it has a basic good promise of a story but it does remind me of Leverage which I loved & Katherine McPhee adds absolutely nothing to the team so I am not sure how long I will watch it.
I agree about NCIS: Los Angeles. They should have left that on Tuesday following NCIS & let the New Orleans one begin on Sunday. I think the characters on the Los Angeles show are much more interesting than the New Orleans characters. I guess time will tell.
