‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: Why Ray Palmer may not show off Atom superpowers
Over the past few days or so, we’ve discussed how there is a little bit of confusion when it comes to “Arrow,” whether or not we are going to see any characters with superhuman abilities pop up during season 3.
Recently, some of the producers came forward and said that they wanted to keep this show more grounded, especially now that they have The Flash, where they can explore so much more of that. However, this seems to go against having someone on the series in Ray Palmer who, as we’ve discussed in our recent podcast, has powers that enable him to change size.
Based on what we’re reading now, though, it appears that if Ray ever does use his powers, it won’t be on this show. Just see what executive producer Marc Guggenheim had to say in a new interview with GreenArrowTV:
“I think anything is possible. My instinct is that if Ray Palmer’s going to shrink, he’ll probably shrink on another show … With The Flash in existence, there’s no real compelling reason for us to do super powers on Arrow. We can bring characters to Flash to have super powers. We have plans for Ray that don’t involve shrinking, but our plans for Ray are actually really cool.”
One of these purposes, in addition to giving Oliver a real professional rival, is giving Felicity a new person in her life who she has a real connection with:
“Ray is a joy to write for, because his banter with Felicity is a lot of fun. It’s a quality of the show that we’ve never seen before.”
Regardless of whether or not Ray has powers on this show, we are excited to see what he brings to this show. We’ve always been a tremendous fan of Brandon Routh, and we feel like he could make Oliver realize some of his own feelings.
