‘The Newsroom’ season 3 trailer: See Jeff Daniels, Olivia Munn, many new stories

For all those waiting for the long-form trailer for “The Newsroom” season 3, great news today: The wait is officially over.

If you look below, you can see the entire preview, which is certainly stuffed full of all sorts of excitement. The main push for this season seems to be a story that Neal (Dev Patel) is trying to uncover with the power of social media, but somewhere along the way his path leads to him finding a source that the government has hard-pressed to uncover. It’s a classic journalism struggle, and it is Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) who must find a way to unite his ACN family against any forces that come his way.

There are some light moments in this trailer, as well. It appears as though Don (Thomas Sadoski) and Sloan (Olivia Munn) are now a couple, and there is some classic back-and-forth between Will and Mackenzie (Emily Mortimer). We do feel like in terms of tone, there is nothing altogether different here from the first two seasons, and most of the cynical media-hipsters will probably continue to disparage the show in favor of something with an antihero. We like those shows, but we like the different pace “The Newsroom” brings. We find it more inspiring than preachy, and for the most part intelligent. There is no other show on TV that gives you this sort of flavor on a weekly basis, or even really tries to when you think about it.
