‘The X Factor’ UK review: Only the Young, eight-person boy band, and a Blonde Electra decision

The latest news -Today, the massive three-day event for “The X Factor” UK began, and with a category that could either be very interesting, or very controversial depending on what the madman Louis Walsh decides: The groups.

Helping Louis here was Tulisa, who for some reason made an appearance like she was either in a 1980s music video, or the movie “10.” Either way, we feel like Tulisa made a nice little comeback to the show here. We always liked her on here, and we’d be happy with her as a judge again now that all that court stuff is cleared up.

Only the Young, “Ghost” – A good song choice. It’s in the Syco family, and the chorus showed off all four of them. Also, we dig that this isn’t just a “boy band” or a “girl band.” It’s mixed, and that gives you a more dynamic sound.

Blonde Electra, “Gold Digger” – Why the name change? We probably shouldn’t even care. The best way to describe them is “trainwreck.” They would be really fun if you were slightly buzzed at a karaoke bar somewhere, and wanted something that you can just laugh at rather than talking to some people who are annoying you.

The Brooks, “Jar of Hearts” – Bad choice of music. These two guys are young, and they should be singing something fun. We’re not sure that they really understand what they are even singing about when it comes to this song.

New Girl Band, “Say Something” – Still no name? There was some beauty in here, but also major tuning issues. They could be something good, but they need a whole lot of work to get there. We’re not sure they’d last long in the live shows.

Concept, “XO” – Very good performance, and a nice twist on the Beyonce hit. These guys have some serious talent, and we feel like their commitment is going to be a hard thing for any person to match. Louis is nuts for criticizing them.

New Boy Band, “Mirrors” – Excellent song choice! Not all of the guys are perfect, and we still don’t get why we need eight of them. Still, the harmonies are very good! They could make it further in the competition than anyone else this season.

Louis’ decision – Clearly, Louis has been slowly getting his brain lost in the Bermuda triangle. He put through Blonde Electra! Also, he put through Only the Young, and the new boy band seemed like a shoo-in. The only thing we really feel Louis did that was that wrong was snubbing Concept for Blonde Electra. Maybe he didn’t want to split the boy-band vote, but these guys were the only ones actually good enough to not put through the crazy act.
