ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4, episode 3 spoilers: The next move for Tony Goldwyn’s Fitz

Last night, “Scandal” delivered an episode that was essential to the progression of the story, especially when we are talking about the character of President Fitzgerald Grant. His State of the Union Address brought himself and Mellie together as a couple, and made her realize that as miserable as she was, she still needed to put on a brave face for the American people.

So what is the next move for Tony Goldwyn’s character when it comes to his wife? Based on the new sneak peek below released by ABC, it seems to be appeasement. While Tony Goldwyn’s character is in the midst of some sort of freakout when it comes to gun control, Abby comes in to tell him that Abby has become obsessed with one of the latest news stories sweeping the nation. Abby claims that this is normal, but what isn’t are the series of demands that the First Lady is making as a result of all this.

Is Fitz troubled by all of this? Maybe, but he is certainly not showing it at all! Rather, he tells Abby that what he really wants to do in this case is just to give Mellie whatever she wants. This will at least keep her reasonable in his eyes, and maybe okay with continuing to put on a brave face.

In the end, we imagine that there is going to be no quick-fix solution to this problem. Mellie is in deep mourning at the moment, and understandably so given everything that has transpired with her and the death of her son. It’s also far worse than anyone else realizes.
