MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4, episode 13 review: Lissa shockers, Jenna and Owen, and more

Awkward -New Year’s Eve arrived on “Awkward,” and you had to know that this was going to be a messy occasion. There was drinking, partying, kissing, revelations, and fighting galore.

Through it all, Jenna was desperate to try to get Matty alone for a midnight kiss, which is one of those things that she is some reason desperate to have … maybe in terms of symbolism, if nothing else.

Unfortunately for her, she got some misinformation that sent her in the complete wrong direction … and also closer to the piano man, Owen. These two shared a kiss as the clock struck midnight, and soon after that she realized that Matty hadn’t actually spent his time with some “cougar” like she had heard. Instead, it was his mother. This isn’t going to be good, especially given the way that she straight-up lied about it.

Who knew that the clock striking midnight would lead to so many confessions? The biggest ones actually came for the Lissa character. Not only did she learn that her father was gay through a random scene with a stripper, but she also, in an effort to get him to confess, made it clear that she was in love with Tyler. We really like these two characters, mostly because there is that forbidden element to it, and the two have a lot of energy and chemistry. Too bad it’s still hard to see where the story goes from here.

This episode continued a season 4 trend; the show has lost some of its humor this year, but the characters are still interesting enough to keep us watching. Grade: B.
