‘Ray Donovan,’ ‘Masters of Sex’ season 3 spoilers: What we know, and what we expect

Tonight, Showtime is going to close the door on their two summer dramas in “Ray Donovan” and “Masters of Sex,” but it is only for the time being. As many of you may be aware of already, the two series have already been renewed for a third season, so there is no reason to worry or sound a “series finale alarm” anytime soon. There is still quite a bit of time left, and quite a lot to look forward to.

Let’s start here with premiere dates. We firmly expect both series to return again in July, though it may benefit them to start a week earlier if possible. Airing against the fall season tonight is likely to hurt the live ratings substantially.

Now, for a few specific comments on each show.

“Ray Donovan” – Here, we anticipate Ray finding some sort of way to keep the action going. We haven’t seen the finale yet, and while it seems possible he could end up in jail, we cannot see him staying there given how that makes the show less interesting. We’d like to see most of the present storyline closed off completely, and to start fresh with a new potential Big Bad next year.

“Masters of Sex” – It’s time to see Bill Masters near the top of the mountain. While he cannot be there fully just yet, we’ve spent the past two seasons more or less showing the journey towards him being successful. We feel like he has finally paid his dues, and it is time to move forward onto a different level.
