There was something very interesting that came out of Emily VanCamp’s new interview with TV Guide about the fourth season of “Revenge,” and it is something that we did not know previously: Original creator Mike Kelley made it clear that under no circumstances was he planning to bring David Clarke back from the dead.
So with a new boss now on board in Sunil Nayar, we imagine that there had to be some confusion that came with finding out that we were going to suddenly seem David alive. What complicates this further is that on paper, Emily seems to be in a good place right now. This is a challenge that Emily described with the following comment:
“Last season’s finale was one of my favorite episodes to date, and to me, that would have been an amazing series finale … Because that’s what it was all about for Emily: She accomplished what she set out to do. So this season has been very tricky to approach. Where is she at now?”
We feel like there may be a certain amount of confusion for everyone on this show, given how much it has changed since the beginning. You also had Josh Bowman at one point last season suggesting that he wanted his character of Daniel to either turn extremely evil or die, since he was having a harder time figuring out anymore what motivated the character.
Will we find out a little more about these characters and the purpose of this story in the future? We have to hope so, since the last thing we want to do is cause the show to drag, and make us feel like we’re seeing the same thing over and over again.
