‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 9 preview: Cullen, Syd Snow start the stare-down

Hell on Wheels -Saturday night, AMC airs a brand-new episode of “Hell on Wheels,” and it is a story that could start slowly, and build to one of the best Old West shootouts that we’ve seen on the show in some time.

The fact that it involves two old war friends in Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) and Syd Snow (Jonathan Scarfe) only adds to the level of intensity. These are two guys who ultimately know each other extremely well. They’ve seen one another’s strengths and weaknesses, and they have also gone down extremely different paths since they were both in the war many years ago. Cullen didn’t kill because he enjoyed it; to him, it was more about survival, and finding a way to leave a better legacy later. Meanwhile, Syd is also as sadistic as the Governor John Campbell.

With Syd now in power as a Marshal, we expect great fireworks to be taking place Saturday, and the sneak peek below is just a small sample of the buildup. Syd attempts to lure Cullen in using some temptations from the man he was many years ago, but it does not appear to faze him … at least for now. We don’t imagine that Cullen can be swayed by wanting to be like Syd, but there are some other ways that he can be influenced or threatened. It just remains to be seen if Syd goes far enough to figure these out. At the moment, what Bohannon cares about more than anything is the railroad, maybe even more than his wife and family.
