‘The Flash,’ ‘Jane the Virgin’ receive early three script pick-ups
Even though nary a show on The CW’s upcoming fall schedule has aired just yet, we do still come bearing good news for two of them: The network is showing confidence.
Per a report from Deadline, both “The Flash” and “Jane the Virgin” have each been handed three additional scripts, which gives them each a grand total of 16 at the moment. There is no guarantee that these scripts will turn into episodes, but it gives the network a chance to see early where they are planning to go with the story moving forward. This is a tremendous show of confidence, and it is brought on by positive reviews of both series along with expectations based on what the network is seeing behind the scenes.
When it comes to “The Flash,” this is not even remotely a surprise decision. The show starring Grant Gustin has been destined for greatness ever since it was conceived. The character is a favorite from the world of DC Comics, and it has both an audience of loyal fans and also those who have been watching “Arrow” ready and willing to tune in.
As for “Jane the Virgin,” this is much more of a gamble. The title suffers from the get-go when it comes to being somewhat hokey, and it diminishes almost the humor and charm that the show has underneath that. Even though its Monday timeslot at 9:00 p.m. Eastern has been terrible for The CW over the years, they may be willing to deal with a slow star given star Gina Rodriguez’s appeal.
