‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: Lucy Lawless talks circumstances of new role

On Tuesday night, Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” will be airing its season 2 premiere, and there are many interesting characters we are going to meet. However, the one that has received plenty of attention is Isabelle Hartley, and for a variety of different reasons. For one, this is a woman who Phil Coulson knows and trusts, and has for a rather long time. In addition to that, you have a woman playing her in Lucy Lawless who has quite the reputation for kicking butt and taking names. Remember here that she is best-known for being a Warrior Princess!

So how does Hartley end up becoming a part of the show? As Lawless explains in a new TVLine interview, this mostly stems from Clark Gregg’s character feeling a certain tinge of desperation in the wake of the HYDRA fiasco, and he wants to find some others out there who he is confident he can trust:

“Well, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been smashed by the treachery of Ward, who’s revealed himself to be a double agent and now Coulson has to pick up the pieces. You get to see globally how many agents they’ve got and the one person he feels he can trust to spearhead this move is an old friend, Isabelle Hartley.”

While Lawless claims that Hartley does like Coulson, one of the things that the two are going to have to work past is that they have some fundamental differences of opinions when it comes to how they conduct missions.
