‘American Idol’ season 14: Adam Lambert on taking guest-judge gig

The latest -At this particular moment, many Adam Lambert fans probably know already that he is going to be coming on board “American Idol” as a guest judge for an episode next season, as he is filling in for Keith Urban while he grieves the passing of his father-in-law. It’s a tricky situation to step into, but he is trying his best to handle it with grace.

In the process of speaking with reporters at the scene in New York, Adam was able to articulate a little about being there for these auditions, and what he was looking for from them. For more, just look at what he had to say to “Access Hollywood” in an interview:

“I’m really honored that they asked me to come back in fill in for Keith. The circumstances are sad, my condolences … But, on a lighter note, I’m thrilled to be here. I’m thrilled to be able to help these contestants follow their dreams … I’m trying to make them comfortable, break the ice a little bit, and chill them out a little bit. Hopefully we’re guiding them towards doing their best.”

As Adam knows, you need to have so much more than just a good voice these days in order to be a superstar; you also need to have a personality, and a brand that is going to follow you from the start of the competition until the end. You may be able to win the show with just a voice only, but we’ve seen many times over the years that this does not equal a star. Instead, it allows you to get maybe one album out before you disappear into nothingness.

“American Idol” season 14 will premiere on Fox at some point in January, and we will have some further updates all about it at around that time. Stay tuned, and sign up today to get some further news worth singing about via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
