‘Downton Abbey’ season 5, episode 1 preview: A look at Michelle Dockery’s Mary

Is there drama lying ahead for Lady Mary on “Downton Abbey“? That should be clear from the get-go. This is a woman who ended season 4 in a very tricky position. While she may have known that both Charles Blake and Anthony Gillingham were interested in being with her, she was not particularly keen on making a choice between the two.

It still remains to be seen whether or not this is something we will see in the early going of Sunday’s premiere, but apparently, Michelle Dockery’s character will be very keen on getting in touch with nature. The image above features her, Tom Branson (Allen Leech), and seemingly some trees and a lake in the background.

The biggest thing we should stress here is that there is a zero percent chance that Mary and Tom are ever hooking up. This has been said time and time again, and really it would be too strange and throw the show almost headfirst into soap-opera territory. With that being said, expect to see the two continue to take on problems together, and use one another as a sounding board. Considering what they have each went through over the years, they have a common bond that nobody else can really understand.

At some point this season, Mary will choose her future love (if she chooses one at all), and with Tom, the larger question is whether or not his socialist believes are going to eventually cause a rift to form between him and the residents of Downton.
