‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Who has an extremely tough storyline ahead

“Downton Abbey” is a show that often thrives when it comes to showing us big moments, and it appears that one of the characters who will receive a healthy amount of screen time moving forward is one that does often have “fan favorite” stamped on him: Thomas. Whether you love him or love to hate him, this is a guy who has already gone through a lot as a gay man at a time when it is hard to be a gay man.

On the fifth season, the horrible struggle for this character is going to be his attempt to try and change his sexuality, mostly so that he does not have to suffer in silence any longer. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Rob James-Collier admits that this was a particularly difficult plotline for him to handle:

“There are mornings of those scenes when you haven’t been able to sleep at night because you are so worried about how it will go. Thomas comes right up to the abyss.

“It’s quite a harrowing storyline and I hope it is. Because if it isn’t, I haven’t done it justice.”

We definitely do have the utmost sympathy for Thomas after hearing of this storyline, which is saying something given all the mean things that he has done to Baxter and others. We want to see him happy, even though it is going to be hard for him to find that within this world.

Also, we are happy for James-Collier to get this level of material. He is one of the actors on the show who has not received the recognition he deserves, and that could change after this season.
