‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Jessica Lange and ‘Monsters Among Us’

Want to know how the story for “American Horror Story: Freak Show” is going to pick up? Well, we are lucky enough to have some of the first details right now from FX, and they give us a sense as to why we are witnessing the tale of this freak show in particular.

What’s somewhat strange about the logline for “Monsters Among Us” below is that no characters or cast members are named; with that being said, we know that the woman running the freak show is played by Jessica Lange, and that many of our other leads will be playing some of the folks who help keep her show alive:

“One of the only surviving sideshows in the country struggles to stay in business during the dawning era of television. When police make a terrifying discovery at a local farmhouse, the eccentric purveyor of the freak show sees an opportunity that will lead her troupe either to their salvation or ruin.”

This episode presents a number of interesting opportunities, and we know for certain that co-creator Ryan Murphy has a lot invested in it being a success. He and Brad Falchuk wrote the hour personally, and Murphy chose to direct it. This is the first episode of the show he has directed personally for the show since the very first season. Murphy had taken a break from directing many of his shows as a whole, given that he has also not directed an episode of “Glee” since all the way back in its second season.
