‘NCIS’ season 12 spoilers: First look at Michael Weatherly, more in ‘Twenty Clicks’
Come September 23, “NCIS” will be back on the air, but you do not have to wait that long to at least check out one of the first photos from the premiere episode!
In case you missed it, the hour is entitled “Twenty Clicks,” and most of the story within it revolves around DC working together with McGee and Gibbs out in the field in order to eliminate a threat. There will be a new Big Bad of sorts introduced, and you’ll also get to see DiNozzo take a larger leadership role within Headquarters while Gibbs is out. We know some people have been asking for this, so you should be satisfied with that.
Even the attached photo above seems to show Michael Weatherly and company already back at the job, with Tony looking super-serious and in charge while Director Vance, Ducky, and Bishop all watch on. (Personally, we’re kind of curious as to what David McCallum’s character is actually looking at right here.)
While this photo may not give away a whole lot, what you really can take this as is a rite of passage in many ways. This helps to bridge the gap between the start of filming and the start of the new season, which may approach now a little faster than you would think. Once you start to get promotional material sent out, then you know you are getting extremely close to new episodes coming on the air. (Commence the celebration!)

The episode is actually spelt 20 Klicks. I’m glad Tony has the first episode. Since he has lost his sillyness he is being more competent and I like that about him. The ‘big bad as sorts’ is to do with a Russian.

I am glad that Michael Weatherly has been given this task. He really looks serious, and he is a great actor. Maybe Cote DePablo will be back later on in the season after she finished filming the Dovekeepers. Tony looks great in that photo.

I think it would be interesting if the team is on a mission overseas in some way ie Middle East given all the news about ISIS and the potential threat they pose and somehow Ziva turns up in the middle of it. There has been hints of a follow up to Truth or Consequences so maybe Ziva gets captured again and the team finds her in an unexpected way. Hopefully she will put in a guest appearance after the Dovekeepers is done. Regardless of how it happens, Ziva is a changed person whether for better or worse only the writers will know. I always thought the confrontation that Bishop had with Parsa in his cell last season should have been a Ziva/Parsa one because with Ziva being Israeli and former Mossad it would make sense that there would be some baddies from her past that would pop up now and then.

I agree with you. Ziva might show up as a surprise and they are not giving any information out.

The only reason Tony gets to take a “larger leadership” role is because super Gibbs once again finds himself in the eye of the storm accompanied by McGee who will no doubt be looking on in awe. The big story is that these two will be featured in the danger filled (helicopter crash, wolves, fire fights with superiorly armed mercenaries) real story, while Tony clicks the clicker for Vance and company in his nice suit. Sorry I’m just not that excited that Tony gets to stay at the office while as usual, the big story features super Gibbs and others. In other words – the season 12 premier seems to herald business as usual.

Actually, from the preview it looks like Tony is going to be the one to play the big hero this time because Gibbs and McGee get into trouble and need rescuing. It appears that Vance sends him to Russia to retrieve them. There’s a brief clip in there that shows Tony firing a rifle. I can’t wait for this one.

I’ll be pleasantly and extremely surprised if Tony does much more than worry and click the clicker. If he actually does go to Russia, he’ll likely find that Gibbs has already handled the danger and just needs a ride home. I’ll be even more surprised if Tony gets any sustained attention for being awesome during this season. Most of his “feature” scenes since season 5 seem to involve him being humiliated or portrayed as cowardly or lame in order to highlight the awesomeness of Gibbs or Ziva. I’m not getting my hopes up since MW seems to be excited every year about his character and tptb NEVER give him anything close to what he got in the early years. I don’t know if tptb just lie to Weatherly or if he’s “encouraged” to be a cheerleader about his character. He hasn’t been portrayed as a great agent or hero since Don P. Bellasario lost his job as show runner. It’s all super Gibbs now. The big stories are all Gibbs all the time.

Me neither. I think from what I’ve read in the spoilers we’re in for a hell of a ride this season.

All I can see from the photo is that it looks like Michael has dropped a few pounds and is looking better for it which is good because I noticed last season he was trying to hide a paunchy tummy. If his character is taking a more leadership role that is great because it is high time. We saw evidence of that in past seasons even as far back as season 3 when Gibbs temporarily retired and joined Mike Franks in Mexico and those episodes were great. Michael needs to be allowed to stretch his wings and show us what he can do. He is a really good actor. He just needs to be given the chance. That being said, now that the TIVA hoopla seems to have died down, largely thanks to Cote taking a role in “The Dovekeepers”, let’s get on with the show and see what all the actors can do. From what I’ve read in all the spoilers so far it promises to be a very interesting season.

Michael has dropped more than “a few pounds.” He lost 30 pounds and dropped down two suit sizes in a little under three months. Pretty impressive for someone in his mid-40s, IMO. Although actually, I hope he doesn’t lose any more. He’s in fantastic shape now, but if he loses much more he’s going to start looking gaunt. His face is quite thin.
I do agree that they need to start giving Michael stronger storylines… and he’s given a few hints that this may be in the works. That tweet he posted about Tony “finally getting his act together” in s12 was an indicator of things to come, IMO.

Where did you find out that he’d dropped that much weight? I agree he’s about right and shouldn’t lose any more. I think I saw something on Twitter about him doing a Triathalon. Whatever it is I just hope that he doesn’t overdo it.

I saw a clip on Entertainment Tonight about NCIS being named the No. 1 show in the world and the party they had to celebrate. They mentioned how much weight Michael had lost. And yes, it’s because he’s in training for a triathlon, which is coming up quite soon I believe.
