‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Jeff Daniels on Will McAvoy – Harry Dunne conversation
At least Jeff Daniels seems to be very well aware of the public fascination surrounding some of his characters. After all, the guy could not have chosen more different roles if he had tried in Will McAvoy and Harry Dunne. One of them is a serious, driven, but also complicated anchor at a cable news network. Meanwhile, the other is a dolt who gets himself into trouble doing very stupid things.
With “Dumb and Dumber To” and “The Newsroom” season 3 each coming out this year, we expect to see plenty of press for Daniels in the weeks ahead, and it’s led already to some interesting comments, including this one per People Magazine:
“I have imagined a day when Will is sitting in a diner and there’s only one seat left in the restaurant, and Harry Dunne comes in and sees it and says, ‘You mind if I sit there?’ So Harry Dunne and Will McAvoy are having breakfast together, and Harry won’t stop asking him questions. I’ll probably do it. I’ll find a diner and set it up and do one of those acting-with-myself things.”
Who knows? Maybe Will can do a story on Harry in one of his “News Night” segments … or not. We have a feeling that Aaron Sorkin didn’t work that in to the final six episodes of the show somehow.
For us, we’re mostly just happy to see Daniels getting so much work right now given everything great he has done over the years. The one thing that we do really hope to see moving forward is that Will McAvoy does have a reasonably happy ending, given that we do think he’s a good guy who just spouts off a little too much and makes things harder on himself than he really needs to.
