‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: Expect to see a back-to-basics approach for Coulson
While SHIELD may be a far-reaching organization capable of many surprising things, Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” will be taking an interesting approach to some of their early episodes this coming season. Namely, Phil Coulson is looking to use his new position in order to shift ever-so-slightly the way that SHIELD conducts its business right now.
Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, executive producer Jeff Bell explained that for Clark Gregg’s character, being covert is one of the important things about SHIELD, and this is something he wants to bring back into the equation when the show returns:
“We come in in a surprising way … Coulson was always interested in getting back to the roots of S.H.I.E.L.D., to the kind of organization it used to be — you know, this small, covert, ‘men in black’ kind of thing. And I think you get a feel for that when we come into the second season.”
Personally, this is something that excited us, mostly because we feel like from a TV perspective, the story is a whole lot more interesting when you have an organization operating within the shadows. If SHIELD was completely out in the open most of the time, it would not be nearly as interesting to us. Also, it would probably be more difficult for them to actually execute anything given that adversaries would know what was coming.
The new season premieres on Tuesday, September 23, and even though this crew is especially coy, we hope to get some further details soon.
