‘The X Factor’ UK notes: Complaints, Chloe Jasmine, Kitten & the Hip, and more
In what will most-likely be a trend throughout this season of “The X Factor” UK, we’re going to have some reaction and other stories in the days that follow each new episode … especially since the British press have a way of digging up every little thing that you’ve done in your life after you appear on the show.
Commercial complains – Apparently, people are annoyed that there are just as many ads as there is actual singing on the show. Our response to that? We’ve had that here in America for over a decade. British audiences are lucky that have a network like the BBC; we’re stuck with a whole flood of ITV-like stations here on North America, so the ads don’t bother us.
Ratings – The viewer count was closer to eight million for Sunday’s show, which was actually lower than Gary Barlow’s equivalent show last year. We’ve been saying that Simon Cowell returning would not help the ratings much at all for the past year, while the press huffed and puffed claiming that it would “save the show.” The problem is just that people are too tired of the genre.
Chloe Jasmine’s photo controversy – The bluesy singer debuted on Saturday, and is apparently a favorite of Simon Cowell’s. However, some super-revealing photos that hit the internet this weekend have people talking, mostly because she can be seen in the buff from the waist-up.
Our response? Chloe is a model. She appeared on “The Face.” Models take their clothes of all of the time for work. There’s really nothing to see here beyond the photos themselves.
Kitten and the Hip drama – We’ve seen two separate stories out there, each awkward and funny in their own way. First, the claim that the duo-turned solo act (Scarlett Mae Quinn is the only one moving forward, while her husband is staying back) shouldn’t be on the show because they’ve made some professional-looking music videos. Good luck finding an “undiscovered” act these days. If you haven’t heard of them and they aren’t stars, then we have no problem with them being on the show.
Also, there were reports that Quinn was a lap dancer in the press, and while she seemed to confirm that on Twitter, she joked that she’d “probably still be doing it” if the 600-pounds-an-hour rate that she was reported to make from the gig were true. One other thing: If nobody is going to hate or judge Channing Tatum for being a former stripper, probably shouldn’t do it here, either.
