Amazon may revive ‘The Tick’; Fox looking for new ‘Greatest American Hero’
Clearly, the success of “Agents of SHIELD” and “Arrow” have caused other networks to want in on the superhero craze … even some of the more comedic ones.
First, we begin with the great and glorious news that Amazon may be considering bringing back “The Tick” more than ten years after the live-action series with Patrick Warburton briefly aired on Fox. People was the first to report the news, and original comic author Ben Edlund is on board to write and produce the series, which was at one point also a very popular cartoon.
Are we thrilled about this? Definitely, but you have to remember here that this is just a pilot for now. It’s still far from being official, and we’re unsure of what the cult audience is for it at this point.
Meanwhile, Fox is getting close to reviving “The Greatest American Hero”! This original show was a cult phenomenon starring William Katt, and a new version, per Deadline, has been given a put pilot commitment. That is a pretty good sign that this show could get to the air.
In most situations, we would label the idea of such a remake as horrible, mostly because you are going to be trying to capture the magic of something that was so unique and quirky for its time. However, the two men behind this new version in Phil Lord and Chris Miller were behind the recent smash “The Lego Movie.” In other words, they’ve already taken one somewhat-fishy idea and turned it into a big success. Props to them.
