2014 Emmys: What to expect from ‘True Detective,’ ‘Breaking Bad,’ Robin Williams tribute
The 2014 Emmys are just about upon us! We’ve already detailed what some of our own predictions are in a recent podcast, and now, we’re going to do our best to discuss some of the overall expectations for the show itself.
1. Seth Meyers will be a good host – He was great at the White House Correspondents Dinner, and he also know hows to get in and tell some great jokes. He’s not going to have the same sketch clout as Jimmy Fallon, but he will try to make up for that in some other interesting ways.
2. “Breaking Bad” garners plenty of attention – Even though we personally don’t see it as a sole frontrunner, this show may end up feeling like a victory lap for Bryan Cranston and company.
3. “True Detective” wins at least one big award – Maybe this comes in the Drama Series, or it comes with Matthew McConaughey. But HBO’s gamble to categorize the show against the big boys is going to pay off.
4. We’ll complain about the reality category again – Probably almost immediately after we’re reminded of how lazy the Emmys were in their nominations again. Clearly, they don’t care at all about this category and just put it in so that reality TV fans would shut up.
5. The Robin Williams tribute will be a tear-jerker – The MTV Video Music Awards tried one Sunday night, but it felt a little forced since he didn’t really ever have much to do in the way of music. This is where Robin got his start, and we imagine many TV stars to be present speaking out about how much they loved the man.
We’ll have full coverage of the show a little later, and you will be able to see it all over at the link here. Also, sign up now for some other TV scoop on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
