ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7: Novels from Nathan Fillion’s Rick inspiring new series
How is this for the world of “Castle” going meta? For its latest creation related to the show, ABC seems to be interested in a product based on a fictional character created by a fictional character.
Per a new report from Variety, ABC is developing a new series from Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller that revolves mostly around the Derrick Storm novels that were penned by Nathan Fillion’s character of Richard Castle. These are novels that Hyperion Books have put out for consumers many times over the past few years, and they are the other major creation of Rick beyond his Nikki Heat novels.
Gregory Poirier, who worked previously on the short-lived pilot “Missing” for ABC, would be the person responsible for making the pilot.
What seems to be the most interesting part about this announcement at the moment is mostly the fact that this would allow the network to do some really strange crossover events if they wanted. Could you imagine Castle going to the set of the show based on his books, and seeing some of their mysteries being filmed? We don’t know if that would ever actually happen, but it sounds pretty darn cool in our head.
One other good thing about this idea is that it could potentially allow the “Castle” world to stick around on ABC for a very long time moving forward, even if the flagship show does not. The show is already six seasons in, and with contract talks happening at some point either this summer or next, it’s not entirely clear how much more of a shelf life this series has.
