‘Mistresses’ season 2, episode 11 review: How will Harry react to Joss’ engagement?

MistressesWhen “Mistresses” first came on the scene last summer Joss was a carefree spirit that was unlikely to ever settle down into married life, but now that she’s met Scott (and his entire family) her thoughts on marriage have changed. The show has been building up a bit of a Harry/Joss “will they, won’t they” scenario this summer, so where does that fit in now?

Joss: Scott is generous with his money (and he has a lot of it), but she’s having a hard time with adjusting to the lifestyle, especially when he buys her a brand new car. Joss suggests that they get a prenup, so that she can establish some sort of independence, but he refuses to move into marriage with a document outlining what happens when the marriage fails. He later talks to her about them making their own rules which include splitting up some of the bills, babies and last names. This seems to put her at ease.

What was really interesting about the engagement was that Joss took the ring off when she met up with Harry and didn’t tell him about it at first. When he sees the ring later they share an awkward hug and it’s easy to see that there is still some serious chemistry there and hurt feelings. A very distraught and lonely Harry ends up sleeping with Greta.

Savi: Now that she’s broken up with Dominic we were hoping that she wasn’t going to move over to Zach, but she picked up that friendship again fairly quickly. There is no chemistry with these two, please abandon this story line!

Dominic isn’t laying down and he’s looking to dig up some dirt on Toni to fight back. He finds out that Toni left her last firm under strange circumstances, but his boss won’t listen. Dominic’s frustrations are bubbling over onto everyone else including Savi while at work. Toni tries to push Savi into filing a complaint against Dominic for screaming at her in the office, but she’s onto Toni’s game and tells her that she’s not filing some fake report to get a leg up. Savi recorded the whole conversation and brought it to the partners of the firm and Toni was set up from the beginning with Dominic’s yelling to Savi’s recording. Boom. Why oh why can’t these two work it out!?!? So did Dominic send Toni packing? Nope, he kept her on as a junior associate saying that she is a good lawyer.

April: She is incredibly upset that not only did the FBI bug her house, but that her relationship with Daniel was a complete lie landing him a much earned slap across the face. He later tries to explain everything, saying that he’s not actually married and that he was supposed to forge a relationship with her but not become romantically involved with her – but he couldn’t help but to fall in love with April and Lucy. She wants to stop helping the FBI after what they did, but they threaten her with jail time, and Lucy, and she agrees to contact them if Paul contacts her. April later receives a package with a cell phone from Paul in it – will she tell the FBI?

Karen: Anna is starting to get frustrated with the apartment search since it’s not going well and she is considering going home to Korea, but she’s afraid of her parents being disappointed in her. She gets her nerves together and calls her parents and decides to go home. After putting Anna on the plane, Karen realizes that she no longer wants to be a psychiatrist anymore. On the plus side her relationship with Jacob is going pretty well, but he’s got a new job… in Boston. He asks her to leaving LA and come with him for a fresh start in a new place. Is Karen going to go? No she decided to stay, for her “life” and her friends. It was a really strange decision to make considering that all of her friends are moving forward and we aren’t sure why she would say no to this adventure.

We know that Joss and Harry need to have some forces that are pulling them apart before they finally come together as a couple, but the Harry/Greta hook up was a bad idea (never mix business and pleasure!) Also Ben showing up at Karen’s door in the last scene felt fairly random. Episode grade: B –
