‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: The new struggle for Clark Gregg’s Coulson
Come late September, Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” will be back on television, and with that comes a pretty major challenge for one Phil Coulson: How do you handle a change in power in a short amount of time? This will be a theme of at least the early part of the second season, where we will figure out what sort of leader he is.
As you would expect, being a director comes with a new set of responsibilities … but also challenges and times in which he is going to suffer. Speaking in a new interview with TV Guide, executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen explained some of what he will be dealing with:
“As director, [Coulson wilil] be faced with some tough decisions, harder decisions than he had to make as an agent … We’ll see the emotional consequences of that and we’ll see the shifts in dynamics between the characters because of that.”
In the end, we’re happy with a few more emotional struggles when it comes to Coulson, but we also want to see more action and Marvel integration! We know that the majority of heroes are being saved right now for the cinematic universe, but aren’t there at least some other minor Marvel characters you can add here? Sure, we’ve got some … but there could be many more in the weeks and months to come.
What we are hoping for the post right now is simply that “Agents of SHIELD” seems to be well on its way to being the show we hoped it would be from the onset. There were some growing pains, but it turned out fine in the end.

I’m surprised Kat Dennings hasn’t had a guest spot on the show yet. It’s been established in the movies that her character Darcy knows all about SHIELD and is a friend of Erik Selvig who works for them. Plus Dennings has done TV acting before, I believe.

She is under contract with CBS for the sitcom “2 Broke Girls” so she probably can’t appear in a recurring role and even a guest appearance might not be possible. It’s the same situation as Cobie Smulders, who was under contract with CBS for “How I Met Your Mother” so her appearance in the pilot episode was just a cameo. The episode in which she appeared later in the season was after the series finale for HIMYM had already aired so she was no longer under contract. I read somewhere that the producers of SHIELD are trying to get Smulders to be a recurring character in season 2.

In the video of Patton Oswalt at Comic-Con, it sounds like Bobbi Morse will be in this season, aka Mockingbird.
