‘American Idol Experience’ at Disney World to close earlier than expected
In what is another sign of the times for the declining “American Idol,” one of its cornerstones is getting set to close at Walt Disney World in the near future.
As first reported by local publication the Orlando Sentinel, the American Idol Experience attraction, which has tried to emulate on a small scale the process in which you get to become a superstar on the show, will be closing at the end of the month on August 30. This differs from the original plan for the attraction, which was for it to close up at some point around the start of next year.
While there has not been a winner from the Fox series to come from an audition here, there have been some singers who have made it very far after first trying out in Florida. Specifically, we’re talking about people like Majesty Rose from last season, Erika Van Pelt, season 11, and the famed “high school student Aaron Kelly” back during season 9. Multiple winners and other top personalities from the show have also put in appearances at the park over the years, with the idea being that it was an entertaining experience for people at Disney World, while at the same time another way for them to attract new people to the show who may not have otherwise auditioned.
Luckily, there will still be some thanks to this who will have a chance to compete on the show at some point in season 14 … but that’s it. After that, they will have to fend more for themselves. (Granted, we suppose we have to see if season 14 is the last season for “American Idol” first.)
