‘Royal Pains’ season 6, episode 10 review: Shots fired

On Tuesday night’s “Royal Pains,” surprises were the name of the game. We had someone getting literally shot, and someone else feeling a figurative shot in the heart when a generous move on her part turned to a full-scale disaster.

With this person, we are of course speaking about Divya. By the end of this episode, she realized just how big a mistake she made coming to Argentina so that her child could spend some time with her grandmother. Now, Rafa’s mother has arranged for it to be impossible for the two to leave the country without the father’s consent, and he is suddenly back in her life after basically making it clear that he didn’t want anything to do with the situation previously. Divya has a story now that is basically independent from everyone else in the story, and it will be interesting to see how that is handled.

It’s fascinating to see how this is crisis is beginning right around the time it looks like Jeremiah’s may be ending. While Viviana received some help from an unlikely source when it comes to immigration, it was from Divya rather than him. They are back on good terms, but she has no plans to stay in the Hamptons, and wants to go to a school in Tulsa. Why there? The only troublesome part of this story was the choice of a random location for her to get career training that she could very easily get in New York without the cost of a move. This felt just like a convenient way to writer her out of the story in the near future … which is probably good for Divya / Jeremiah ‘shippers.

Hank’s story with Boris was fairly uneventful compared to some of the others, which is surprising given that he was dealing with medical emergencies. He had Evan back in the Hamptons dealing with a lawsuit sparked up by Oz and his antics, and Evan could not find a way to get to the blogger … except for maybe through Ray, who is terrifying everyone. They should be afraid, given that the guy was shot in the closing minutes (but only in the shoulder). He will continue to live the tell the tale, but what we wonder more of right now is what was up with that kinda-flirty pillow fight he and Paige were having before the shots? She and Evan may need to talk about something else in therapy pretty soon.

This episode was entitled “Good Air / Bad Air,” and it’s appropriate given that there was a hot-and-cold nature to it. Divya and Evan’s stories were fairly interesting, while Jeremiah got the “tie things up” treatment and we really don’t enjoy Hank and Boris nearly as much when they are off on their little international jaunts. Grade: B-.
