‘Elementary’ season 3 spoilers: ‘Justified,’ ‘Person of Interest’ alum gets into math

The latest -Sherlock Holmes has solved a variety of tricky mysteries on “Elementary,” but there are occasionally those that pop in where he even needs to call in extra help. This is one of the reasons why we have Rich Sommer on the list of recurring players, given that he has a way with numbers that would almost put David Krumholtz to shame … almost.

You may have heard recently about an episode that will feature Sommer again as there is another case that calls on his help; now, we know one more face who will be joining him. Per an Entertainment Weekly report, Jacob Pitts, who is otherwise known for his roles on “Justified” and “Person of Interest,” is set to appear as Paul Ettinger, an extremely brilliant mathematician who helps to assemble a team for Holmes and Watson in order to identify a killer. Basically, we expect this to be an hour stuffed full of even more data than usual on the show.

While we wouldn’t be too fond of this series if it constantly revolved around math (maybe that’s why  “Numb3rs” was never a favorite, we do like to see it implemented here and there to solve a case. After all, this sort of thing keeps a show like “Elementary” fresh, and it constantly needs a few new elements here and there in order to keep things new, exciting, and worth watching.

Due to NFL football, the show will be starting a little later this season than usual. However, rest assured that there will be some good news that comes from this, including fewer repeats during the season itself.
