Teen Choice Awards 2014: Tyler Posey, Sarah Hyland, Demi Lovato, Cher Lloyd open show

On Sunday night, the Teen Choice Awards aired on Fox, and they chose to start off in a way that would get as many people pumped as possible: A performance. After labeling it “the song of the summer,” Demi Lovato took the stage to perform “Really Don’t Care.” Not only that, but she was joined by the featured artist on the song in Cher Lloyd.

When hosts Tyler Posey and Sarah Hyland came out, the biggest emphasis here was just enjoying Tyler being hilarious. He tried to sing, tried to dance, and mostly had a good time. His energy helped to make up for the fact that the entire show is completely obsessed with social media like nobody’s business. Remember when watching a show didn’t include you being told that you have to tweet, Instagram, and do a million other things throughout? To think, the main reason why we continue to see all of this integration is so that the networks can brag about it later. Plus, this awards show really needs to hang its hat on something given that its actual ratings are never that great.

Ultimately, we wish that Posey and Hyland had a bigger introduction to the show where they could have had even more fun and brought some more headlines to the show. To us, cramming in a huge amount of awards into two hours is really not as interesting when we can see the results online, but we’re not a teen and haven’t been for a little while.
